Tell the government to invest in communities

A good community provides for everyone and makes people feel like they belong.

But right now, our communities are being starved of investment while fat cat businesses make big profits from awful asylum housing.

Home Office contractors are earning millions in profit from the taxpayer, only to isolate people seeking safety and place thousands in prison like conditions.

Government money is flowing into the pockets of CEOs and shareholders, instead of our cities, towns and villages where we could build social housing and provide safe homes for all. We must re-direct the flow. Everyone is losing.

Tell the government we want to see investment in community, not private profits. It’s time to fund councils, so they can build social homes and truly provide for the housing needs of the community they serve.

Dear Home Secretary,

I am calling on you to create an asylum system run on these principles:

  • Not-for-profit

  • Uses public funds to improve housing and services that all of us, including people seeking asylum, rely on

  • No person seeking safety is detained

  • Strengthens local authorities to ensure that every person seeking safety is housed in decent, community-based accommodation

  • Recognises everyone's right to seek safety and to live in a community

I am happy for Refugee Action to email me with their latest news and information on how I can support refugees:

Please don't go! If you choose no, we won't be able to contact you about our work and how you're helping people who have fled violence and persecution. Be part of the action to help them rebuild their lives in Britain. Please choose yes.
